Arusha National Park

This small but beautiful Tanzanian National Park is the closest national park to both the famous Arusha “safari town” (30 km) as well as the Kilimanjaro International Airport.

The animal life in the park is abundant, but it is also one of the most beautiful and topographically varied parks in Tanzania. The park’s three most significant features include

  1. Mount Meru (Tanzania’s second-highest peak at 4,566 meters above sea level),
  2. The notably different colored Momela Lakes
  3. The 3 km wide Ngurdoto Crater, which was formed about fifteen million years ago!

 

What to see in Arusha National Park

  • Arusha Animals – Arusha National park has a habitat for a wide variety of mammals including bushbuck, buffalo, and elephants, zebras, monkeys, duiker, baboons. Waterbuck, hippo, and antelope. The birdlife is spectacular with over 450 species recorded in the park including Flamingos and other Eurasian migrants, which can be seen between October and April. Arusha National Park tour is throughout the year regardless of the rain season of April and May.
  • Mountain – Mount Meru which is part of the Park with its 4566 m above sea level can be climbed in three to four days with an overnight stay at alpine huts of Miriakamba and Saddo on your way up and down. The Park covers an area of 137 sq. km, with very unique features that including the montane forest, Momela Lakes, Ngurdoto Crater, and the rocky Mount Meru.
