November

Tanzania in November – Short-rain Season

Tanzania in November is a great time to travel (start of the short rains), as the wide-open plains take on the appearance of a golf course with short grass that adds color without obscuring wildlife sightings – there are plenty of predators seeking out newborn herbivores as the rainy season starts and seeing the stormy clouds rolling in is exciting.

November Travel Highlights

  • The arrival of the rain and some accommodations lower their prices
  • Tanzania Parks are quiet – there are far fewer tourists
  • The Great Migration herds returned to the north of the Serengeti by this month
  • November is still a good time for safari in the Mahale Mountains where chimpanzee treks are barely affected by the short rains
  • Many herbivores give birth this month, attracting plenty of predators
  • If you’re a keen snorkeler or diver, November is one of the best months for encountering whale sharks on Mafia Island
  • Stormy clouds rolling in make for a dramatic backdrop on safari, and some exciting photo opportunities

Top Places to visit in November

Serengeti National Park

The northern parks, in general, are great for game year-round and although the Serengeti receives rain, this means that the wildebeest will be moving south across the plains to make the most of this moisture

Zanzibar Island

Visibility is still good on the coast in November and the billfish marlin fishing season begins around the middle of the month.

Ngorongoro

Going to Ngorongoro Ndutu Area – which is bored with Serengeti National Park to witness the arrival of Great Migration to the plain grassland – also stop for a game drive in the Crater floor and witnessing the Africa big 5 animals.

Tarangire National Park

It is home to thousands of Majestic elephants, plains of ancient baobab trees, and land to some of Tanzania’s most iconic animals.
