Lake Manyara National Park is located north of Tanzania and at the base of the Great Rift Valley Wall. The park has a total area of 648 square kilometers and ranges from an altitude of 45 meters above sea level.
The name Manyara is derived from the Maasai tribe word Emanyara which is the Euphorbia plant.
Lake Manyara National Park is known for tree-climbing lions, flamingos, breath-taking scenery, and the soda-ash lake in the center. It is really worth a day trip from Arusha.

The Lake Manyara national park is surrounded by the underground water forest, forest reserve, which is a highland forest area covering 250 square kilometers, marsh area, and savanna area which gives the park good and stunning nature.

Lake Manyara Wildlife – Animals
Home to an impressive collection of large mammals, Elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebra, and a variety of antelope inhabit the park as well as a variety of monkeys and a large population of hippos and baboons. If you are lucky you may see the Manyara lions, well known for their tree climbing habits, lazily resting on the branches of an “Acacia tortilis” tree.
The landscape of the Park also supports an impressive range of other animals including wildebeest, warthog, waterbuck, dik-dik, impala, and many others. The birdlife is also abundant, with flamingos, pelicans, hornbills, and plenty of forest species
When to visit Lake Manyara National Park – Weather
Lake Manyara National Park is considered the best destination in Tanzania, all year round. However, June to October is considered to be the best time for game viewing.
